Texas Students Hang Poster of Themselves in Local McDonald's, Where It Remains

The poster, which they conceptualized, made use of a photo they themselves took; they added a logo of the fast food chain to further make it look like one of the restaurant's authentic posters.

In an interview with Click2Houston website, Maravilla said he and his friends were inspired by "Crazy Rich Asians".

"All the other posters were in natural environments, like a city or at the beach, so we went to our local event center", he explained.

Jevh says he was anxious his parents would be cross but they were so amused they visited the restaurant and posed for photos with it.

From the video, it didn't look like they even noticed. This week, they finally showed the world their culture-jamming masterpiece-an image of themselves eating beneath a poster of themselves eating, as though they'd always been at this McDonald's, a couple of non-insane, corporeal Jacks Nicholson.

Maravilla found an old McDonald's shirt at Goodwill for $7 and dressed up as an employee. "I was very, very nervous", Jevh said.

Jevh M. shared how it all came together in a YouTube video.

The poster was delivered a week later, and Maravilla and Toledo set their sights on figuring out how to get it onto a wall at McDonald's without being noticed. He told USA Today: "Like, for Asian men".

"McDonald's is a worldwide corporation so we wanted to make the biggest impact if possible", said Maravilla.

On July 13, with the help of some other friends, the duo snuck the poster into the restaurant and tacked it up when staff wasn't looking. "That's the main goal".

A McDonald's franchisee released a statement on the prank Tuesday, saying, "We take pride in highlighting diversity in every aspect of our restaurants. We applaud these students" creativity and hope to see them in our restaurants again soon'.
