Liverpool vs Leicester City: Jurgen Klopp weighs in on Alisson gaffe

Liverpool survive Alisson howler to continue winning start

Sky Sports reported similar complaints from the former Borussia Dortmund boss as his team failed to beat an already relegated West Brom at the Hawthorns - even though Liverpool surrendered a 2-0 lead as the Baggies hit the back of the net twice late in the game.

Leicester City were edged by Liverpool as first half goals from Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino left the hosts with too much to do.

Leicester: Jurgen Klopp said he was glad Alisson committed a howler as Liverpool were making their best start to a league season since 1990-91 because that should help the goalkeeper avoid a more costly repeat.

There is a certain arrogance about Alisson that is very pleasing to watch from a Liverpool point of view, as he controls his goalmouth and knows that he will save each ball that comes his way.

'If you are flying constantly, you are not prepared for the hard moments - you can not be prepared - so we are. I'm not going to be stupid and make the same mistake.

"It wasn't a good performance from us in most aspects, really - pressing, defending, keeping the ball".

"They have to play passes and defend and all that stuff. In an ideal world, with getting three points in a hard game", Klopp told post-match.

"I also had all the conditions to kick the ball away and tried to keep playing, keep the possession". And Firmino believes that Alisson should not be blamed for the mistake that allowed Leicester back into the game.

"I am angry that I made a mistake that put the team in a hard situation", the Brazil worldwide admitted.

"No. It's only a positive that he's that good a footballer but we have to learn to use him in the right way", he said.

But momentum can be crucial and Liverpool's run to the Champions League final last season was a case in point, with the confidence and belief generated by the quarterfinal victory over Manchester City propelling them beyond Roma in the semifinals and into the final in Kiev, where they were beaten by Real Madrid. "Now we will keep this (in mind) for the away game", he said.

"It was bad judgement, I made a mistake reading the play". They had not conceded a league goal in six-and-a-half hours of play.
