Hurricane Florence LATEST: HUGE hurricane to hit US East Coast NEXT WEEK

Hurricane Florence has the potential to make landfall on the East Coast but it is still too early to tell

There is great uncertainty about Florence's track beyond day 5.

While no warnings have been issued for Hurricane Florence, mapping by the U.S. National Hurricane Center showed the system approaching Bermuda.

The storm is entirely unlikely to hit oil production or delivery terminals but it may have economic impacts.

In the Pacific Ocean, while Tropical Storm Norman is not expected to hit Hawaii, Hurricane Olivia could hit the islands next week, potentially as a tropical storm, the hurricane center said. The bad news is that the storm will continue strengthen to a major Category 3 or 4 hurricane with winds of 120 to 130 miles per hour and the likelihood of a USA landfalling hurricane increases. On this path, Florence will track over the warm waters off the southeast US coastline.

The primary simulation of the European model has demonstrated remarkable consistency with a hurricane landfall in the Mid-Atlantic on the past five runs, dating back to Tuesday night.

Hurricane Florence has weakened some but will likely strengthen again into a major hurricane and could threaten the US East Coast by next week. "This setup will guide Florence on a west to northwesterly course into next week".

It is carrying maximum sustained winds near 35 miles per hour, and at 2 p.m., it was located about 440 miles of southernmost Cabo Verde Islands. Since Florence is now a tropical storm, it is maintaining a more southerly and westerly track than thought. The question of where Florence would make landfall and how strong the cyclone would be is too soon to be determined. Both are forecast to become named tropical storms or hurricanes within the next two days, the hurricane center predicts.

Closer to the US, there's a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms in the western Atlantic that has a low chance of forming into a tropical storm.

That would mean "severe consequences in terms of wind damage, coastal storm surge and inland flooding from torrential rainfall", it said.
