Cowboys ‘only willing’ to trade third-round pick for Seahawks’ Earl Thomas

Broncos vs. Seahawks Quick preview for Week 1

"Until something changes", Rapoport elaborated on NFL GameDay Season Preview on Tuesday, "my understanding is Earl Thomas is not expected to show up and play for the Seahawks".

"I've never let me (sic) teammates, city or fans down as long as I've lived", Thomas wrote, "and don't plan on starting this weekend".

Thomas confirmed his return in an Instagram post, but it appears there is still tension with the Seahawks, as he wrote: "The disrespect has been well-noted and will not be forgotten".

The Seahawks have agreed to wipe away nearly all of the fines Thomas accrued during his holdout.

As of the moment, any deal between the Seahawks and the Cowboys with regards to the fate of Thomas is unlikely to push through, especially when considering Dallas executive vice president Stephen Jones' statement last week that his team and Seattle have not had any meaningful discussions of late.

In July, it was originally reported that Thomas, 29, planned on holding out in hopes of landing a new contract from Seattle.

Thomas published an article on The Player's Tribune last month titled, "Here's What's Actually Going On", in which he issued the team an ultimatum: pay me, or trade me.

Seattle wasn't interested - the team wanted more.

The Cowboys visit Thomas and the Seahawks in Seattle in Week 3.

In Thomas' absence, the Seahawks have been preparing to start 2017 fourth-round pick Tedric Thompson at free safety.

Thomas will apparently avoid becoming the first Seahawk since Kam Chancellor in 2015 to miss games due to a holdout. A later report stated Thomas was in town exclusively to accompany his daughter to her first day of school.
