CBS ‘60 Minutes’ Executive Producer Jeff Fager to Depart

Jeff Fager

Less than a week after her husband Leslie Moonves was ousted from his position as CEO and chairman of CBS, Chen was back on the network to oversee the latest live episode of the reality competition series.

In a statement, Moonves said, "Untrue allegations from decades ago are now being made against me that are not consistent with who I am". She did not take time to directly address or acknowledge what was going on behind-the-scenes at CBS, but she did sign off in a new way that showcased her support.

Prior to his firing, Chen released a statement defending her husband against the many sexual assault accusations being brought against him.

Duncan reported on the situation with Fager on Wednesday's edition of "CBS Evening News".

We learned the answer to that question on Wednesday: Jeff Fager, who ran "60 Minutes" for 14 years as executive producer, found himself the subject of a journalistic investigation, as opposed to its agent. "I really felt like this was one of the most sexist places I've ever worked", Sarah Johansen, who worked as an intern in the 2000s and alleged Fager groped her, told the New Yorker.

In response, Fager told CBS in a statement that, after 36 years, he was sacked for a "harsh text" that he sent to another CBS reporter.

Fager said he would not have thought that one note would have resulted in a dismissal after 36 years at the network, "but it did". Fager said it was because of a text message he sent to a CBS News reporter who was covering the story about him.

He was then forced to submit to an interview with company investigators under threat of being fired, where he came clean that he was trying to get another accuser a gig at CBS after she threatened to go public, according to the paper.

Jeff Fager of the show "60 Minutes Sports" speaks on stage during the Showtime panel presentation of the 2013 Winter Television Critics Association Press Tour in Pasadena, California January 12, 2013.

Duncan tweeted later Wednesday that the text message was sent to her.

Meanwhile, Connecticut's Quinnipiac University, which presented Fager with its Fred Friendly journalism award earlier this year, said it has rescinded the honor. By the end of the day on Sunday, he was officially out as CEO.

Bill Owens will manage the "60 Minutes" team until a new executive producer is hired. Rose had been a co-anchor since 2012 on "CBS This Morning" and a contributing correspondent on "60 Minutes".

As previously reported by Inside the BB House, Leslie Moonves (Julie Chen's husband) has been accused of sexual harassment and sexual assault by a number of women.
