British Airways investigating data breach from 380000 card payments -IAG

British Airways said his behaviour was

The airline admitted "criminal activity" had compromised the personal and financial details of customers who made bookings on its website or app from just before 11pm on August 21 until 9.45pm on Wednesday.

The website hack drew complaints from customers on Friday, with some victims saying they first heard about the breach from the media and not British Airways.

British Airways is investigating the theft of customer data from its website and its application for mobile phones at an intensive pace. "We take very seriously the protection of our clients 'data" - are his words in the statement.

"Though it hasn't been announced if it was a patching issue, an insider oversight, compromised data in the cloud, a third-party breach or something else, security in depth requires protection of the complete hybrid infrastructure, as well as any vendors", Sahai said. Luckily, customer travel plans and passport numbers were not affected.

British Airways says the problem has been fixed and that its systems are no longer affected by the cyberattack.

Data security expert Trevor Reschke said that like any website which sees large volumes of card transactions, British Airways was a ripe target for hackers.

The company said it began notifying customers late on Thursday, one day after the breach was discovered.

"But yes, we're interested in speaking with our customers about any potential negative effect that this event may have had on their credit card".

It added that customers who travelled during the above periods should contact their bank or credit card provider and follow their recommended advice.

"No, our data is encrypted", he said.

Despite the unfortunate circumstances, British Airways is taking full financial responsibility for the breach.

A spokesman for the Information Commissioner's Office said they would be making inquiries about the data theft. Please accept our deepest apologies for the worry and inconvenience that this criminal activity has caused.

Will I have to get a new card?

"In July, British Airways canceled dozens of flights in and out of London's Heathrow Airport, affecting thousands of passengers", NPR's Frank Langfitt reports from London.

"We know that the information that has been stolen is name, address, email address, credit card information; that would be credit card number, expiration date and the three-letter code in the back of the credit card", he told the BBC.
